With the Johor crowd slowly embracing the coffee culture, little independent cafés are starting to spring up one by one. However, looking for a good one in Johor Bahru can be deemed difficult, especially one with a good mix of quality coffee and desserts, a nice ambience and good service. My Liberica is one such café that has managed to master this mix.
The Ambience
One word: Cosy. Dim lighting is all the rage nowadays with all the other coffee joints. There is outdoor seating as well.
The Food
I've come here a few times and I've never failed to order the same drink – Coco Con Gelato (MYR12). It's basically Iced Chocolate with ice cream and tastes so yummy.
My regular cafe hopping kaki, lé bf, ordered the Original Cheesecake, which he swears by; all the while eating and exclaiming of its perfect texture and taste.
Unfortunately, I am not much of a coffee drinker (ironically), so he has to be the Official Coffee Taster. He order a Cappuccino which was "pretty good", but I thought it was reasonably priced at MYR8.
The Menu
They have a wide range of offerings, from coffee to tea to desserts.
Here, they serve the ever popular Luwak Coffee for MYR50 a cup. They are known for planting and roasting their own brand of coffee, appropriately named, My Liberica.
They also have a selection of teas – pomelo tea, orange tea and mulberry ranging from MYR7.80 to MYR9.
Their dessert menu boasts swiss rolls, danish pastries and mille crepes (yes, this was a must) just to name a few.
Overall
One of my favorite cafés in JB for now, until something else pops up. The service was impeccable; the staff were so friendly and cheery, which is pretty hard to come by nowadays.
Note: We came on a Monday night, so it was pretty quiet. Take note that it can get crowded on the weekends, so be prepared for standing room!
